rough cut

the blind geometer paces
negotiates narrow spaces
in the sparsely furnished room
his thoughts untrammeled wander
through paradox and quandary
ideas once vague assume
some shape a sharpened aspect
of facets free of defect
sensed within an uncut stone
but mis-set chisels shatter
crystalline to mundane matter
like the urgent telephone
he stumbles as from slumber
breaks his circuit -- wrong number
a nudged chair's complaint unheard
and his steps defy retracing
an impenetrable casing
on the order he'd inferred
